I recently visited Academy Sports to make a purchase from the firearms department, and the experience was extremely disappointing. While I understand that corporate policies can make this department challenging to work in, the customer service I received went far beyond that. One particular middle-aged employee with a tattoo sleeve had a very poor attitude and was openly dismissive. As a legal gun owner with significant experience around firearms, I felt that I was immediately judged and profiled rather than treated like a paying customer. His tone and behavior made it clear he was not interested in being helpful. Customer service in the firearms department matters a lot, especially when customers are following the law and trying to make informed purchases. This interaction alone was enough to make me reconsider shopping here, and I’m confident it has already cost this store business. Academy seriously needs to address the attitude and professionalism of the firearms staff if they want to retain customers.
